Pure Torture
That’s what the professional football season has been for me through the first month… just pure torture. Watching the Chicago Bears struggle week in and week out with injury problems, ineffective play-calling, and inept personnel has been about as much fun as I imagine a colon cleanse would be.
Take that 4th quarter in Detroit, for instance. The Bears gave up 34 points to allow the Lions to come back from a 13-3 deficit and walk away with a 37-27 win. Prior to that, the defense had only given up about 120 yards all day, so it was extremely frustrating to see things deteriorate that quickly. Sure, 7 points came off an interception return for a TD and 7 more came when the Bears tried an onside kick, but that still leaves 20 points squarely on the defense’s shoulders.
The D has always been the team’s strong suit. If they’re not holding up their end of the bargain, what can we fans expect from the rest of the year. Yes, I know there are a lot of key injuries right now, but that’s not a good enough excuse.
Please, please, PLEASE turn things around Sunday night in Green Bay!!
