I just read an AP article that said a hardcover signed 1st edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone sold for over $40,000 at a recent auction. Are you kidding me? That book was published in 1997 — just 10 years ago! And it’s already “worth” $40,000? Good lord.

I guess the person who bought it is viewing it as an investment. I mean, I’m sure the book will be worth much more than that, say, 25 years from now. But still…. I had to do a double-take when I saw the incredible sum paid for a 10-year-old book!

J.K. Rowling sure hit the jackpot with her idea of a boy wizard, didn’t she? Over 400 million copies sold worldwide — wow!!!
