Kids Plot to Harm Teacher

supplykit.jpg I’m sure you’ve heard this story by now, haven’t you? A group of nine third-graders in Waycross, GA plotted to hurt — or maybe even kill — a teacher, all because the teacher “scolded” one of the kids for standing on a chair in the classroom. Can you believe this?

According to the news article I linked to, at least nine children were involved in the plot, and each apparently had his or her own job to do. One kid was supposed to cover the windows so no one could see in or out of the classroom, another was supposed to clean up after they did whatever they were going to do, etc.

They also brought in a bunch of weapons and supplies to use in their attack, including a steak knife, handcuffs, a paperweight, duct tape, gloves, and various other odds and ends. According to police who interviewed the students, the plan was to “knock the teacher unconscious with a glass paperweight, bind her with handcuffs and duct tape and then stab her with a broken steak knife.”

Good lord, what is this world coming to? We’re talking about kids who are 8, 9, and 10 years old here!! There are major problems in a society where this kind of thing happens. Blame it on TV, movies, video games, the parents, whatever you want… All of those are probably factors here. Something must be done about this stuff. The kids have to be held accountable for their actions and taught that plots like this are wrong, that there are consequences for all involved.

Wow.

I’ll definitely be tracking this story to see how it plays out.
