Ryan Schallenberger Bomb Plot
Wow, it seems like there’s an endless supply of crazy in this country. The biggest news story of the morning concerns an 18-year-old South Carolina kid named Ryan Schallenberger who was apparently planning to bomb his Chesterfield school in an act that he called a “Columbine followup”.
The plan was thwarted when Schallenberger’s parents phoned police after 10 pounds of ammonium nitrate was delivered to their door (yay for online shopping). A subsequent search yielded a journal in which Schallenberger laid out the details of his plans. He wanted to plant bombs around the school and then leave an audio recording of some rant or other after he killed himself and who knows how many others.
According to the CNN article I read, no guns or other weapons were found in or near the Schallenberger home.
To make this whole South Carolina school bomb plot even more of a head-scratcher, it seems that Ryan Schalleberger wasn’t an outsider or loner like the Columbine killers. He is described as “handsome” and “social”, which certainly doesn’t fit the typical bullied nerd profile of other kids who have taken this path.
I’m glad the parents did the right thing and called the cops here. Now I’m interested in finding out what the kid’s deal is. Why was Ryan Schallenberger plotting to bomb his school? Obviously something wasn’t right with him, but what???
I go to Chesterfield High School and i can’t beleave that something like this would happen…
Chesterfield is such a small town…it make you relize that things like this could happen
anywhere…I know the people who lived with Ryan and i can only imagion what they are thinking
one of his cusins actually roomed with him for years!!!
Hi Leanne, thanks for your comment!
So have you heard anything around town about what Ryan’s motive might have been? What set him off to plan a bombing like this in the first place?
I have been keeping up with school violence since Columbine. It is so sad how many are taking bombs, guns, etc to makeup for being bullied, unhappy and just plain sick of being picked on. That is not the answer… I wonder why he sped up timeline. I mean all the sudden 10 lbs of ammonium nitrate ordred all at once…
He was the sweetest kid you could have ever meet…….
A student put this up as their crrent event in an on-line class I am in. I was interested in finding out if anyone knows this boys nationality. He appears to be white but terrorist attacks are suppose to be from the middle east. This is even more scary than any of us have thought about. It makes me very fearful for my children to go to highschool.
Yes, he is caucasion…name is German but white definately…
You know what…anyone who listens to the media is DOWNRIGHT STUPID!! The media flips EVERYTHING around to make it sound like something people want to bring up around the water cooler the next day at work…”Hey, did you hear about the three year old who choked his mother with a toy car…” Stupid crap like that, doesn’t make sense…who knows for sure wether or not Ryan stated that he wanted to kill Jesus? Someone can say he was a sweet kid and next thing you know, Ryan is the kid walking around with a trenchcoat and black fingernails…the stereotypical “Bomber” kinda person…anyone who listens to the media has NO LIFE…that is sad and they should be the ones being prayed for…this boy was a sweet boy and you can’t truly believe anything until you’ve talked to him and/or know about him…so therefore, it is safe to say, anyone who does not fall into this category needs to keep their mouth shut and talk about the election or what they had for breakfast…topics they TRULY UNDERSTAND…who knows…Perhaps someone had the same thing for breakfast and SURPRISE…yeah whatever, you get the point…Have a dandy day…GOOD BYE >:o

“this boy was a sweet boy and you can’t truly believe anything until you’ve talked to him and/or know about him”
So these charges against Ryan are just bullshit and all a big mistake? He wasn’t planning to blow anything up? He wasn’t planning to kill people?
Oh, I get it. He was just misunderstood, right???
Give me a break. No one here believes everything the media puts out there is 100% accurate, but come on. There must be a kernel of truth to some of the things written about Ryan, otherwise the kid wouldn’t be in custody, now would he?
this goes to comment #7
you really do know my son. and he never did say anything about jesus. Just hang in there and
you’ll see there is alot of lies. and yes ryan liked everyone at school.
and he wasnt going to hurt his friends or school.
thanks for sticking up for him.
You’re quite welcome…unlike these losers giving Chesterfield a bad rep and they don’t even live in this town, it’s people like us that can bond together and prove this kid was unrightfullly accused…those who still don’t believe, they need to live here in Chesterfield for a little bit, get the word of Jesus in their hearts and find the light so to speak…we’re a small town and we stick behind our fellow citizens of C’field as well…even if they’re guilty…however, this is different, he’s innocent and no one knows for sure what’s going through his head…once again, talk about the election…
AMEN
Well… Things have blown over by now and may not be best to expose my name to the public. Whoever is reading this may have an idea who I am.
I’ve hung out with Ryan pretty much everyday for almost a year during both our Junior and freshman years. I’d give him a ride home each day from school since I lived only a mile from his house and he lived on a dirt road where I am all the time riding four wheelers on. Me, Ryan, and another friend would go out bowling each weekend, we would work doing scrap metal and we did our own little flea market deal so he can raise money to purchase him a vehicle. If not that, we would all hang out at the diner Ruby, slot car track, or ride around. The whole time I been around Ryan he was rarely emotional and couldn’t stand the fact of whining. His sense of humor would make anyone laugh. Anger problems? Well we all get angry sometimes, I do my self. Yes I’ve seen Ryan angry at times, one of his friends ran him into a poll smashing his face in but he would calm down a few min later. There are a lot of lies about him..I blame the new media mostly. I know Ryan, including his neighbors and parents. His parents are good and not bad people like some people say. Yeah I was considered as his “best friend” to the community here in Chesterfield County and I was put through some scary shit as well because people thought I had something to do with it too.
