Job Interview

Monday, January 5th, 2009

I have a very important job interview lined up for this month. It’s for a tutoring position at a high school, and is actually a very coveted spot because of the relatively high pay and benefits. I won’t go into details here, but let’s just say that I would be making great money even with part-time hours.

Anyway, I haven’t been on a job interview in close to a decade (I’ve had my current part-time gig for more than 8 years), so I’m extremely nervous about it. I’ve been practicing answers to common interview questions, have purchased a brand-new suit for the occasion, and am trying to figure out how to remain calm when I have to go in to meet the director. With my luck, I’ll probably end up puking all over the guy’s nice office furniture!

Actually, the worst part of the whole ordeal is waiting for notice of the interview day. I submitted my resume a couple weeks ago, and then was told I’d be granted an interview “in January”. I didn’t get any further details from the secretary, but I was afraid to ask for a specific date because I didn’t want to seem pushy. So of course now that we’re into January and past the holidays, I’m stuck waiting by the phone for that all-important call.

Is the interview going to be this week? Is it going to be at the end of the month? I have no idea, but again, I don’t want to ask. Ugh, I hate having to wait anxiously like this!

1937 Bugatti Supercar found

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

bugatti supercar I’ll never be one of those people who finds a valuable painting behind a cheap reproduction or who unearths a hidden treasure in my grandmother’s belongings. And I’ll certainly never uncover a rare car worth a whopping $4.3 million, unlike the lucky relatives who inherited Dr. Harold Carr’s estate.

When the 89-year-old man passed away in England recently, his family discovered a 1939 Bugatti Supercar (or Type 57S Atalante) in his garage. It’s an extremely rare vehicle (only 17 were ever produced), and this particular one has all of its original equipment intact.

The Bugatti supercar was once owned by British race car driver Earl Howe, thereby pumping its value up even more, and will fetch a nice multi-million dollar sum at auction next month.

Meh, I don’t care for cars and certainly wouldn’t spend $4.3 million on one (even if I had the money), but I wouldn’t mind finding something like that :) !

Bernie the Swindler

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Bernard Madoff, the investor who admitted to running a giant $50 billion Ponzi scheme early last month, had a copper statue worth $10,000 stolen from his Palm Beach home on Dec. 22.

The statue has since been returned, with the following note attached to it:

Bernie the Swindler, Lesson: Return stolen property to rightful owners. Signed by — The Educators.

Hahaha!!! I know it’s not funny to those who have lost millions to Madoff, but this made me lol when I read it. And just remember, the SEC was asleep at the wheel the whole time, especially when you realize that someone warned them about the Ponzi scheme YEARS ago.
