Job Interview
Monday, January 5th, 2009I have a very important job interview lined up for this month. It’s for a tutoring position at a high school, and is actually a very coveted spot because of the relatively high pay and benefits. I won’t go into details here, but let’s just say that I would be making great money even with part-time hours.
Anyway, I haven’t been on a job interview in close to a decade (I’ve had my current part-time gig for more than 8 years), so I’m extremely nervous about it. I’ve been practicing answers to common interview questions, have purchased a brand-new suit for the occasion, and am trying to figure out how to remain calm when I have to go in to meet the director. With my luck, I’ll probably end up puking all over the guy’s nice office furniture!
Actually, the worst part of the whole ordeal is waiting for notice of the interview day. I submitted my resume a couple weeks ago, and then was told I’d be granted an interview “in January”. I didn’t get any further details from the secretary, but I was afraid to ask for a specific date because I didn’t want to seem pushy. So of course now that we’re into January and past the holidays, I’m stuck waiting by the phone for that all-important call.
Is the interview going to be this week? Is it going to be at the end of the month? I have no idea, but again, I don’t want to ask. Ugh, I hate having to wait anxiously like this!
I’ll never be one of those people who finds a valuable painting behind a cheap reproduction or who unearths a hidden treasure in my grandmother’s belongings. And I’ll certainly never uncover a rare car worth a whopping $4.3 million, unlike the lucky relatives who inherited Dr. Harold Carr’s estate.
