Ran a mile!

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

I ran a mile today for the first time since high school (almost 20 years ago)! I usually walk for two miles every day, but today wanted to push myself a little harder. I didn’t set out to run a mile; I told myself to just run a block, then two blocks, then another block. That turned into the whole outbound trip, and I just walked back in.

I have to say it feels pretty good to be able to do that! I know a mile is nothing, but for someone who hasn’t done it in 20 years and who smoked for 10 of those intervening years, it’s kind of an accomplishment.

My knees and shins are susceptible to injuries, though, so I’m not going to push it. Instead of running a mile every day, I’m going to aim for three days a week at first, while just walking as usual on the other days. Then I might push myself to 1.5 miles per run, and then eventually to maybe 2 miles.

Tiger Wins Buick Open

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

tiger buick open I never watch golf, except on Sundays when Tiger Woods is playing in the final group. That’s why I was tuned into the Buick Open today, as Woods began play one shot ahead of Michael Letzig.

Tiger didn’t disappoint. Just a couple weeks after missing the cut at the U.S. Open, he came back to win the Buick by three strokes over Greg Chalmers, Roland Thatcher, and John Senden, who all tied for second. This wasn’t a particularly brilliant round for Tiger, as he was just 3-under on the day. But it was enough for the win, which is what matters in the end.
