Mayweather Fined
I don’t follow boxing much, but I just read that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. was fined “six figures” for weighing in at 146 instead of 144 for his upcoming welterweight fight against Juan Manuel Marquez. Six figures for two pounds??? Are you kidding me? That’s at least $50,000 per pound (yes, I can do first grade math), which I think is positively insane!!
Ya know, if I had some kind of penalty for each pound I was overweight, maybe that would be enough incentive to keep me popping diet pills instead of M&Ms and jogging instead of sitting in front of the boob tube all day long. Hmm, sounds like a plan!

it was in his contract to weight that weight. he had months to train to get there. it wasn’t important to him, so he paid the cash. heck, he knew he was going to win the fight anyway, which i think is the worse crime — making people play to see such a sham of a fight.

Oh, I see. As I said, I don’t follow boxing at all, so I don’t know about the weigh-ins and contracts and all that. Still, a six figure fine for being 2lbs overweight is massive IMO!!!
