Oh, boy. Where to even start with this one? Mackenzie Phillips, who enjoyed some fame on the ’70s sitcom One Day at a Time, has just released a book called High on Arrival. During an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show to promote the book, Phillips claims to have had an incestuous relationship with her father John Phillips, who was part of the group the Mamas and the Papas.

According to Mackenzie, the first time she had sex with her father, he essentially raped her. It was the night before her wedding, she was 19 and high on drugs and alcohol. She blacked out and woke to find John on top of her, having sex.

Later, Mackenzie claims that their sexual relationship became “consensual” and that John wanted to run away with her and move to a country where they wouldn’t be recognized as father and daughter.

First, I don’t know how much of this story should be believed. I mean, come on, that’s just completely outrageous, sick, and disgusting. Plus, it seems as though Phillips might be doing this just to sell books. After all, there’s no one to verify her story, right?

Second, even if it is true, why would she want to tell this particular fact to the world???? My god, what kind of a person is this? Shouldn’t she be working through things with a therapist instead?

I just don’t understand the point of this revelation, except as it relates to publicity and profits. This is completely sick all the way around.
