Kanye and Taylor Swift

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

By now everyone knows how Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift‘s acceptance speech at the VMA the other night to say that he thought Beyonce should have won. I’m not into music at all, so I had never even seen the videos in question. I watched both of them — Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” and Swift’s “You Belong With Me” — and wasn’t overly impressed by either. Kayne thought Beyonce dancing was one of the best videos of all-time? She’s an awesome dancer and all, but as a video that didn’t say much.

Swift’s video wasn’t all that original, but I can see how the theme would resonate with the pre-teen girls that seem to make up most of her fan base. If the winners are chosen by public vote, then I can see how Swift won a Video Music Award.

At any rate, there’s simply no excuse for Kanye’s outrageous behavior. Someone needs to take him behind a shed and give him a few whacks with one of those heavy wrought iron candle sconces that are popular these days. That might be the only way to get through to the egotistical jackass.

Free Streaming NFL Games

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

nfl With the NFL season officially underway, I’m sure a lot of people are wondering where they can watch free streaming NFL games online. This is necessary if your favorite team doesn’t happen to be the local one or if the game is blacked out in your market for one reason or another.

Anyway, the most reliable site that I’ve found thus far to watch free streaming NFL games is Justin.tv. All you have to do is go there, use the search box to search for the game you want, and if there’s a stream, you just click on it to join it. Nothing could be easier — but then again, there’s no guarantee that someone is streaming the game you want.

Still, it’s definitely worth a try if you can’t make to a sports bar or whatever!

9/11

Eight years on, and I still remember the attacks like it was yesterday. This is not something that will soon be forgotten by anyone who witnessed the events, either in person or on the news.

RIP to the innocent victims.

Class-Action Settlement

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

I was part of a class-action lawsuit against an investment outfit that turned out to be little more than a Ponzi scheme. I don’t want to go into details because it’s kind of embarrassing that I got caught up in it all. Fortunately, I only invested around $300 or so before the SEC stepped in and shut the whole operation down back in 2006.

For the past three years, all of the investors have been waiting patiently for the legal process to run its course so we can get our money back. I just received a letter from the lawyers today notifying me that my settlement has been approved. I was originally slated to get $96 back because that was the only amount they could confirm I invested. And from that, I’ll end up getting a check for… $28 — or roughly 30% of what I was due because the lawyers need to take their fee as well.

I guess I should feel lucky that I’m getting anything back at all. I wonder if this is what usually happens in class-action suits, like against drug and tobacco companies. I hope the litigants in those cases receive a lot more than what I got!

At any rate, the check should be here in a few days. There’s nothing much I can do with it except help pay bills, so in that respect, I’m thankful that it’s coming .

Florida State Football Game

Monday, September 7th, 2009

ponder florida state So here I am, wrapping up the long Labor Day weekend by watching the Florida State football game. They’re playing longtime rivals Miami, and are currently trailing 14-10 at the half. It’s been a great game thus far. If Seminole quarterback Christian Ponder can get into any kind of rhythm in the second half, I think FSU will walk away with the win.

Remember back in the ’90s when this was the matchup of the season? Florida State and Miami used to be such great football institutions, but in the 2000s, it’s been all USC, Florida, and Texas.

Oh, well, it doesn’t actually matter to me who wins this game. I used to be a pretty big FSU fan, but now it’s all Mizzou. Go Tigers!

Pedi time!

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

I haven’t had a pedicure in ages, mostly because whenever I have a spare $50, I would rather buy something useful for the house or my family instead of “wasting” it on pampering myself. But as a result, my feet are in seriously terrible condition! It’s kind of embarrassing, and I’m surprised that I went through the whole summer without doing anything about them.

Well, I’m finally sick of my rough heels, so I went out and bought a pumice stone and some natural lotion today. When I came back home, I soaked my feet in warm water for about 15 minutes, went to work with the pumice, and then finished off with the lotion.

My feet now look and feel about 10 times better than before — and almost the same as when I get a real pedicure. Why spend $50 when I can get similar results for about $15? I don’t know why I didn’t just take things into my own hands like this a long time ago!

20 Years?

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

HighSchoolReunion I can’t believe I’m saying this, but my 20th high school reunion is coming up pretty soon! I swear, I remember so many things from that time that it’s impossible to think it all happened nearly two decades ago. Then again, I’m sure there are far more things that I’ve completely forgotten about thanks to the passage of time.

I didn’t go to my 10-year reunion, and the class didn’t bother with a 15-year get-together. But the 20-year gig is definitely on, and I want to go. Yes, I’ll have to kick my workouts into high gear, and maybe check out an apidexin review and get on a product like that, but otherwise, I feel good about where I am in my life. I’ve got a beautiful family, a nice home, and a good job, so I can definitely walk into the reunion with my head held high. I’m nervous — and excited — just thinking about it now!

Totally clueless

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Ok, I used to think I was pretty tech savvy. I own a lot of the latest gizmos and gadgets, and know my way around them. But then today happened.

I had a problem with my new netbook and had to call the free support line (only free because the computer is still under warranty). The guy on the other end started asking me all kinds of questions about the specs on my netbook, practically none of which I could actually answer. Does it have ddr memory? Is it x86 compatible? Does it have a solid-state drive?

What the…? I had absolutely no idea what the guy was talking about, and since he can’t help me unless he knows exactly what he’s dealing with, I’m kinda stuck. I guess I better go research this stuff right now.
