Huet Sucks

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Chicago Blackhawks starting goalie Cristobal Huet is teh suck. He lets in soft/bad goals all the time, and is a big reason the Hawks lost to Dallas yesterday. I usually don’t get this worked up about early-season losses, but I’m tired of seeing this guy let in bad goals that wipe out the efforts of everyone else. Please get rid of Huet before he ruins the whole season!!!

Swingers

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

vince vaughn I was over at my uncle’s house the other night, hanging out with my cousins in their basement. They have the place all decked out the way a rec room, should be, with a huge TV, wet bar, video games, comfy couches, and framed movie posters everywhere. One of the posters was for Swingers, and I had to do a double-take at how skinny Vince Vaughn used to be. Seriously, I can’t remember him being that fit!

Looking at him now, it seems that he has really let himself go. He is chunky, bloated, and gross. Why doesn’t he just buy the best weight loss pill available, hire a trainer and a personal chef, and get back into shape? He’s got the money to do it, ya know?

And what’s up with his movies lately? They more or less always suck these days. I was thinking about going to see Couples Retreat, but then when I remember how awful The Break-Up was, I change my mind about buying tickets. I’ll just wait until it comes out on DVD.

Orton for MVP???

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

kyle orton Wow, I think I’ve seen it all now. Mike Sando of ESPN has listed Denver QB Kyle Orton as a potential NFL MVP candidate — just because the Broncos are 5-0 at this point. WTF is that all about? Has Sando even seen any of the Broncos’ games? Sure, that 5-0 record is “hard to ignore”, but the team isn’t undefeated because of Orton!!! He hasn’t turned the ball over or made any major mistakes, so I’ll give him credit for that. But he hasn’t exactly been lighting things up, either. If Sando wanted to include someone from the Broncos, why not Champ Bailey or Elvis Dumerville? Someone on the D deserves credit, not friggin’ Orton!

Homeward bound

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

My vacation is coming to a close, and I’ll be heading home soon. I’ve been gone for less than a week (just 6 days), but it feels like a lot longer. Although I’ll miss my mom and brother when I go back, it sure will be nice to be home again. I can’t wait!

The plane trip shouldn’t be all that bad. It’s a long flight, but my son has a few new Nintendo DS games to play, and between those and the movie, he should be able to keep himself sufficiently occupied. The only thing I’m worried about is transporting all my stuff back home. As I mentioned in my last post, I went overboard with the shopping, and now have a whole bunch of items to cart back. I wish I had a couple of stainless steel drums to pack everything in instead of my soft suitcases. I have a feeling that something will break from mishandling and mistreatment while being loaded onto the plane. Oh, well… not much I can do about that now.

Ok, the next time I post should be from the comfort of my very own desk chair instead of on my mom’s slow-as-molasses machine or on some free wifi connection at the library or coffee shop. I can’t wait! See you on the flip side!!

On vacation

Friday, October 9th, 2009

In case you’re wondering why I haven’t posted since Monday, it’s because I’m on vacation this week and am not sitting in front of my computer all day like I usually do. It’s not a real vacation to an exotic place or anything like that. I just took my son to visit my mom for about a week. This trip had been planned for a couple of months beforehand, so I suppose I could have been more responsible about planning posts and scheduling them for publication or whatever, but I was very busy getting other things ready, including a bunch of grad school work, and kind of let my blogging fall to the wayside. Things should be back to normal by the end of next week, though.

As for my vacation, I haven’t been doing too much except for shopping. It’s good to relax and recharge like this once in a while, but at the same time, I hate being out of my routine for too long. Still, it’s fun to buy souvenirs for my husband and friends back home. For instance, I was at this cool store that sells car and truck accessories, and bought my husband a Seattle Mariners license plate frame (that’s his favorite baseball team), and I also bought a lock de-icer for myself in anticipation of winter. On top of those things, I’ve picked up some clothes at an outlet mall, a new fall jacket, and a much-needed new wallet.

All in all, this has been a fun vacation so far. I’m just at the halfway point right now, so I still have a lot of time to enjoy with my family. I’ll be back home next Wednesday night!

Ocho Cinco Rocks!!!

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Say what you want about Chad Ocho Cinco’s showmanship (some people love it, some hate it), but I think this guy is one of the friendliest players in the NFL when it comes to the fans. Not only is Ocho Cinco a very active Twitter user, but he also surprises fans with special giveaways.

For instance, he holds a drawing to fly a lucky fan in to each Cincinnati Bengals home game where they’ll attend as Chad’s guest and get some spending money from him also.

And last night, he invited fans to meet him at a Cincy pub for dinner. Anyone who showed up got a free dinner on Chad. About 21 people took him up on the offer, which is not bad — especially since the offer went out at about 8 or 9pm in Cincy on a Sunday night when most people probably already ate and were settling in for the evening.

What a cool guy! I wish someone on the Bears was like that!!

Five Things I Do When I’m Bored

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Here’s a quick list of five things I do when I’m bored. Hard to believe anyone could be bored in this day and age, but hey, it happens!

  1. Watch random YouTube videos.
  2. Read something on my Kindle.
  3. Clean the house.
  4. Go for a walk while listening to a book on my iPod.
  5. Take a nap.

I know, I know… my list itself is boring and doesn’t contain anything that most people would find helpful in alleviating boredom. But what can I say, this is what I like to do!

Breast Cancer Awareness

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

bc awareness As you probably know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Please take some time to support this worthy cause any way you can. Wear pink, donate time or money, and/or encourage your loved ones to get mammograms and perform monthly exams on their own. Early detection is often a key to beating this disease that’s taking our moms, grandmothers, aunts, daughters, sisters, wives, and best friends.

Many organizations are also doing something to support Breast Cancer Awareness. For example, the NFL will allow players to wear pink shoes, wristbands and decals throughout the month without fines. Yahoo will donate $1 (up to $50,000) for each status update users post on the site. And I’m sure tons of other companies are doing things as well.

This is an important cause, so step up!
