Golden Globes

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Actors Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart arrive at the 67th An I watched a little bit of the Golden Globes last night, and was happy to see a few of my favorites walk away as winners. In particular, I’m glad that Sandra Bullock won for her performance in The Blind Side, and that Mo’Nique won for Precious. Both of those actresses really stood out in their respective films — so much so that even I noticed how good they were (and I never notice the acting unless it’s utterly horrific).

Of course, another reason to watch the Golden Globes is to get a gander at all the big stars — and to see how damn skinny some of the starlets are. Seriously, a few of those women need to check out www.musclemilkreview.org and put some meat on those bones. I cannot stand skeletal women!!! Yuck!

I also loved Ricky Gervais as host (now there’s someone not worried about his figure, right?!). He’s just so damn funny, and yes, I love his accent.

All in all, it wasn’t a bad way to spend my night as I switched back and forth during 24‘s commercial breaks.

Ewww!!

Ok, I just had a gander at my butt while I was in the gym showers this morning and let’s just say it wasn’t a pretty sight. I am only about 5 pounds overweight, but my butt (and thighs, to be honest) are riddled with cellulite marks!!! What is going on with that? I run three times a week, walk four times a week, and lift weights three times a week. I also pay attention to my fat intake, and stick to around 30-40 grams per day (the RDA is 65 grams). Why do I have cottage cheese thighs? I need some cellulite gel or something!

Seriously, I know that everyone has cellulite, but this is disgusting. Is there any way to tone back up before summer bathing suit season?

FreeTalker 2-Way Radio

wrist radio Now that my son is 7 years old, he’s spending more and more time playing outside with his friends in the neighborhood. They ride bikes, play tag, play dodgeball, and just generally do what kids in that age group do. We live in a gated community, so I don’t worry as much about safety as some other parents might. Nevertheless, it would still be nice to be able to check in with my son without having to wander all over to look for him — which is why I think these FreeTalker 2-Way wrist radios would be perfect!

I didn’t set out to look for a product like this, but saw them on the Weekly Deals page at Buy.com and ended up reading the product description. These 2-Way radios come with a nice set of basic features that would be suitable for monitoring a child playing outdoors. The range is 1.5 miles, which is plenty since my son isn’t allowed to go more than 3 blocks in any direction, and the device can be worn on the wrist like a watch, making it unlikely that my son will lose it somewhere. Plus, the radios even display the time, so there will be no more excuses about coming home late for lunch or dinner!

What I like even more about these FreeTalker 2-Way Radios is that the set is on sale for just $19.99. That’s about 60 percent off the regular retail price, which is a nice deal. I would have no problem trying these radios out for less than 20 bucks and free shipping! Maybe I’ll surprise my son with a set for his birthday next month!

Spring semester

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

mu tigers I have just a few more days of freedom until spring semester starts up. As I’ve mentioned several times before, I’m pursuing an online degree right now and am trying to finish up my final few credits. I’ll be busy as hell for the next four months, but then I can relax for the whole summer before coming back for my last class or two.

I like my online classes a lot. I keep an irregular schedule, so the convenience of being able to do the work whenever I have free time is the biggest attraction for me. Plus, I’m “attending” an accredited school, so employers will have no problem accepting my credentials.

Anyway, I better get as much rest as possible before the semester starts because once my classes get rolling, I’ll be scrambling to fit everything in!

Fed up!

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

I am seriously fed up with my skin! I have determined that I suffer from hormonal acne, because I’ll be clear for two weeks, but then start breaking out in the week leading up to my period and stay that way during my period. So it’s two weeks of decent skin followed by two weeks of dreadful skin, and it’s just driving me insane! I’m too old to have this happening to me!!!

Plus, I’m sick of having to follow such a strict skincare routine morning and night. Why can’t I be one of those lucky folks that just splash water on their face and are good to go? I would give anything for an acne pill that works so I can get rid of all those creams and lotions that are cluttering up my medicine chest!

And yes, I’ve been to the dermatologist and have spent more than a thousand dollars on prescription meds as well. Nothing works. Am I just going to have to live with acne for the rest of my life???

Hottest Nascar Driver?

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

kasey_kahne I was chatting with a friend on IM this morning when the conversation turned towards Nascar, a subject I know nothing about. My friend is from Georgia, and is really into the sport. She was telling me that she just bought a new Nascar jacket the other day, so I guess that’s how we got started talking about racing.

Anyway, I was curious about who she thought was the hottest Nascar driver. I only know a few names, like Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. — but I don’t think any of them are particularly good looking.

She sent me a few pictures to check out, and I decided that I like Kasey Kahne the best. But honestly, I wasn’t bowled over by any of them, ya know? In a sport like pro football, there are lots of candidates, even just among a single position like quarterback (Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, Philip Rivers, Brett Favre). I was surprised that there aren’t more hot guys in Nascar. Maybe I just didn’t see the right pictures!

I won!

bcs trophy I won my fantasy football college bowl tournament! I know it’s a bit geeky to get excited about something like this, but I can’t help it. I never do well in these things, so I have to take my victories where they come. The results weren’t pretty, as I only picked 21 out of the 34 bowl games correctly, but most of my misses came for unimportant/low-point games and I still ended up with the best point total.

I watched the championship game last night pretty much from beginning to end. The contest was not very exciting until the 4th quarter, and frankly, I’m surprised that the Tide allowed it to get as close as 24-21. If Colt McCoy had been playing, Texas probably would have won. Oh, well, not my problem!

But what was up with all those commercials? Do college games always have that many television timeouts? I know the NFL does, but I don’t watch NCAA football too much. It was hard to get into the game with all the commercials for cars, food, beverages, life insurance leads, and banking services every two minutes. It makes me wonder how the teams on the field can sustain any momentum with all those breaks!

Anyway, it’s great to begin 2010 as a winner! Fantasy baseball coming up next!

Roll Tide!!!

Bama-Logo2

I am usually not an Alabama fan, but I need them to win tonight so I can win my college football pool. There’s not a whole heck of a lot at stake, but winning the Bowl challenge is pretty difficult, given how evenly matched some of the games are.

Anyway, ROLL TIDE!!!
