LeBron Files for Number Change

I don’t follow the NBA very much (ok, maybe “at all” would be a better description), but I at least know who LeBron James is. And I know that his switching jersey numbers is probably a big deal to fans. James, who usually wears No. 23 in honor of his hero Michael Jordan, filed with the NBA to change his jersey to No. 6. James is doing this because he thinks there should be only one 23 and that the NBA should retire Jordan’s number from every team — much like the NHL did with Wayne Gretzky’s 99.

Interestingly, James only has to file a petition if he is staying with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He will be a free agent this summer, and nobody knows where he’s going yet. If he changes teams, he can get any jersey number he wants, so apparently by filing the petition he’s covering his bases to ensure he can switch it up even if he stays in Cleveland.
