Halfway home…

Friday, April 30th, 2010

… to my Master’s degree, that is. I’ve just completed my second semester of graduate school, and now have 18 of the 36 credits needed for my degree. This first year has been a challenge, as I had to figure out how to budget my time more effectively, but I think I did relatively well. Now I’m trying to decide if I should take summer school classes to lighten the load during my final two semesters or if I should just take the time off and regroup. I’ve still got a couple weeks left before I need to make that decision. I’ll wait a little longer and see how I feel closer to the registration deadline.

“Modern Family” tonight

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Modern Family has quickly become my favorite show on television, so I’m excited about the new episode that will air tonight. According to the synopsis, Fred Willard will reprise his role as Phil Dunphy’s dad, and will be visiting the Dunphy clan in his motorhome. Who knows what kind of shenanigans that will lead to! Maybe the thing will break down and he’ll have to stay with Phil, Claire, and the kids until they can get the rv repair guy to come out and fix it. Nah, the storyline probably won’t even focus on the rv at all. More likely, it’ll have something to do with tension within the family itself, as usual. Can’t wait for a bunch of new Phil Dunphy quotes to share with my friends after this one airs!

Game 6 Tonight!

Monday, April 26th, 2010

I am still on a high from that last Blackhawks game!! I’ve watched the highlight clip (posted below) from around the 9-minute mark to the end about 50 times in the past two days — no exaggeration! That was a huge, HUGE win for the Hawks, and now they have a chance to close out the series against Nashville tonight and move on to the second round where they will play the Canucks. Let’s get it done today, and get some rest for all that travel to Canada. GO HAWKS!!!!

Hawks Win!!!!

Oh, man what an INSANE game!!! Most exciting of an otherwise dull series thus far! Hawks can close it out Monday in Nashville.

Calorie Cycling

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Ok, so for the past week or so, I’ve been lamenting my weight-loss problems. Specifically, I’ve been bemoaning the fact that I can’t lose weight no matter what I do. After a bit of research online, I found out that I might not be eating enough to promote weight loss. Huh? Sounds counter-intuitive, right? But I’ve got myself at 1400-1500 calories per day, which I guess can be a problem in some instances.

Anyway, I learned about something called calorie cycling that I want to try out. In calorie cycling, you take in the same number of calories per week, but in different daily amounts. This keeps your metabolism off balance (so to speak) so it’s always working. For instance, according to my personalized plan, I would need 1457 calories on Monday, 1166 on Tuesday, 1748 on Wednesday, etc. With this so-called zigzagging, along with continued exercise and maybe the best diet supplement out of the medicine cabinet, I should be able to get my body to drop the last few pounds. It can’t hurt, so this is what I’m planning to do starting tomorrow.

Going nowhere

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

At the beginning of the year (Jan.1), I weighed in at 123 pounds. Here we are more than four months later and I weigh…123 pounds. That means four long months of daily exercise, counting calories, and watching what I eat has resulted in a net loss of exactly ZERO pounds!!! What is going on?? If I have to do this much work just to maintain my weight, I can’t even imagine what would happen if I fell off the exercise wagon. I was so depressed this morning that I ended up reading nuphedragen reviews for more than an hour and am this close to buying a bottle just to see if it will help. Seriously, how can I be going nowhere after all this effort??? I just want to lose 8 pounds. Eight frickin’ pounds!!!! Argh!!!

Stressed!

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Ugh, I can already tell it’s going to be one of those days! I have so much to do for work, school, and my son’s school that I barely even know where to start. I eat when I’m stressed, so right now all I feel like doing is plopping in front of the television with a big bag of Doritos and a 2-liter of Diet Coke. And yes, I do know that it’s 6:30 in the morning! Seriously, I’m going to have to take some extra fat burning pills today to counteract the bad effects of what I’m going to do to my body. I hate being stressed out like this!!!

Shopping for hubby

Monday, April 19th, 2010

My husband is the kind of guy that wears t-shirts and hoodies almost exclusively. He stays away from button-downs and suits unless absolutely necessary, which means he only pulls that stuff out of the closet for business trips, weddings, and funerals. Plus, he has this terrible habit of refusing to toss out his old t-shirts. He has tees from 10 years ago that he still wears!

I think my nagging finally wore him down, though. He has agreed to go through his shirts and throw out at least 5 of them, and what’s more, will actually go shopping with me next weekend! I’m so excited that I’m already looking through some men’s clothing online to see what kinds of things to get for him. He has the final say, of course, but I’m definitely going to hint at some stuff with collars and buttons. I have to try, right?
