That’s my dress!

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

OMG, I was just browsing around aimlessly when I ended up on a Google images page with this picture on it. That pink dress looks EXACTLY like the one I wore to my senior prom almost 20 years ago!! I can’t believe it! Is this a matter of me being so old that the styles I wore in high school are making a comeback, or have prom dresses simply not changed that much over the years?

Of course, now I’m also thinking about what happened on my prom night. It was pretty much a complete disaster. I had such a terrible time that I ditched my date without letting him know I was leaving and went home by myself. It wasn’t his fault at all — more about the people we were with — so I kind of feel bad for leaving him in the lurch like that. Needless to say he never spoke to me again, and I certainly don’t blame him!

Falling behind

Friday, September 17th, 2010

This has been a pretty crazy week because my old boss called me up in desperation mode and asked me to help cover some shifts since he’s shorthanded right now. Since I can always use a bit of extra cash, I agreed — not stopping to think how working 3 days out of the 5 would impact my schoolwork. So now I’m totally behind on my reading, which in grad school can be deadly. I should invest in some under eye cream soon, because I have a feeling I’m going to be pulling a few all-nighters in the days ahead so I can catch up. My eyes really end up looking like crap when I do that!

Anyway, I guess my plans for watching college football all day Saturday and the NFL all day Sunday will have to me amended. I need to get back on track here! Sigh.

Wynonna drops 60!

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Wow, have you heard about Wynonna Judd’s incredible weight loss? She was on Oprah yesterday showing off a much slimmer figure. She somehow managed to lose 60 pounds in about a year or so. Wynonna claims it was just from what she called “meditative walking”, but I personally think she had inside access to all the best diet pills or something. I mean, I walk or run every single day too and yet I’m still struggling to lose 5 pounds. How does she lose 60 by doing the exact same thing? Something’s not right with that story, don’t you agree?

At any rate, she does look fantastic. I don’t know why, but I like hearing and seeing celebrity weight loss success stories. I think they give me inspiration for my own battles!

Breaking out again

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Ugh, just when I thought my face was finally done giving me problems, I’m starting to break out again. I made it through the summer relatively unscathed, which is a feat in itself since heat, humidity, and sweat usually combine to leave my face extremely oily and acne-prone.

But now that the weather has turned a bit, I’m starting to break out for some reason. It could be hormonal or it could be all the stress I’m under because of school. Whatever the reason, I need to find some natural acne products to take care of the problem quickly. I don’t want to go back to all the harsh chemicals I was using before. Those products just caused my face to dry out, so I was forever red and flaky. No thanks. I’m going all-natural this time and am looking forward to better results.

Still need a boost

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

OK, so I’ve been low-carb for a couple weeks now, and though I initially dropped a bit of weight, it seems that my body is hitting another plateau. I know I haven’t given this a whole heck of a lot of time, but I can gauge my dieting habits pretty accurately and can usually tell whether or not I’m going to keep losing. It might be time for me to start reading diet pill comparisons again to see which supplement can help put me over the hump. I’m getting extremely close to where I want to be weight-wise, but I do need a bit of a push.

NFL Opening Day!!

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

Ok, I know the season officially kicked off on Thursday night, but the real NFL opening day to me is always the first full Sunday of action. I’m sitting here watching the Bears take on the Lions, while constantly checking the scoreboard to see how other action around the league is playing out. It’s been a loooong off-season, so I’m glad to have football back! That also means fall is here, which in turn means I’ll be dusting off my C6 led christmas lights soon. Hey, did I just mention Christmas in a September post?? Yes, seriously, it’s not that far off!

Group project completed!

Friday, September 10th, 2010

For the past two weeks I’ve been working on a group project for school. Of course, since I’m taking online classes, this provided some logistical problems in terms of getting everyone on board and in sync in a timely fashion. My group had two Skype video conferences to hammer out the details of what we wanted to do. Then we went and completed our designated tasks before coming back together to organize everything into a coherent whole. It was a lot of work and often quite stressful, but we did it! I feel like mailing out Davidoff cigars to everyone for a job well done. But maybe I should wait until we get a grade before I start in on the congratulations!!

Quran burning vs. Flag burning

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

I don’t like to venture into political stories too much because these types of issues naturally stir very strong reactions in people. But I simply have to spout off about this ridiculous Quran burning “controversy” that is 100 percent media-made. This friggin’ nutcase in Florida, Rev. Terry Jones, has a following of 50 people. F-i-f-t-y. In religious terms, that’s nothing! If the media hadn’t hyped up his proposal to burn Qurans on 9/11, then NO ONE would have heard about him.

But the media kept the story in the limelight until even Obama, Clinton, and Gates commented on the thing. Remember, this is all about some nobody in Florida with a tiny following.

EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE I read from the AP about Terry Jones contained quotes from people condemning the man’s proposed actions. That’s to be expected, though. If you want the mainstream media’s approval, you have to threaten to burn the American flag or the Christian bible.

Then today I read of a “protest” in Afghanistan where “hundreds” of people burned the American flag and chanted “Death to Christians!” and “Down with America!” NOWHERE in the article did I read a single quote condemning the actions of those protesters.

So let me get this straight: some nutbag threatens to burn a couple of Qurans, and is lambasted by high-ranking officials in the current administration, all of which is featured prominently in AP reports and network news broadcasts. In response, hundreds of Muslims in Afghanistan actually burn the American flag and call for death and destruction (so much for being a religion of peace) — and yet NOBODY is quoted as condemning those actions??? This makes it seem as if the American flag burning was somehow justified or warranted.

The media strives so hard to show that there’s no left-wing bias, but come on. All it takes is an event like this for their anti-America colors to show through.

Go ahead. Click through to those two AP articles to see the difference. Plenty of negative quotes about what Jones threatened to do; nothing, zilch, ZERO about what the Muslims in Afghanistan actually did do.

Sickening.
